For more than 80 years, Hitachi Automotive Systems has fine tuned itself to respond to the automotive equipment needs of the global customer.

 With the rapid changes of the automotive environment, Hitachi has developed various automotive components to meet customers' changing needs. During product development, the environment and safety are very important factors that we take into consideration.

As with most technologies the automotive environment has been through vast changes in recent years. These changes have demanded innovations in safety, comfort, eco-friendliness and the adaptability needed to respond to the diverse needs of international markets in the wake of globalization. Hitachi Automotive Systems continues to strive to be a world-renowned systems supplier that is the industry's most trusted global enterprise.

Over the course of 80 years, Hitachi Automotive delved into a wealth of expertise, developed and finessed over an extensive history in the automotive equipment business. All of this, coupled with a world-class reputation in electronics technology was used to strengthen operations in the areas of the environment, safety, and information where automotive systems are concerned.

Business operation was bolstered in 2004 by the company's union with TOKICO, Ltd. and Hitachi Unisia Automotive, Ltd., followed in 2006 by Clarion Co., Ltd. becoming a subsidiary. By 2009, Hitachi Automotive was established as an independent company by the split of Automotive Systems from Hitachi, Ltd. - done to strengthen competitiveness and to speed up management decision-making processes, this led to the accelerated pace of global business development.

    Produced the world's first engine central control units
  • 1980
    Produced the world's first photoelectric crank angle sensors and semiconductor pressure sensors.
  • 1981
    Produced the world's first hot-wire airflow sensors.
    Produced the world's first turbo chargers for rotary engines.
  • 1985
    Received "IR100" Award in the year 1984 – given to 100 selections of new technologies in the world - for the hot-wire airflow sensor.
  • 1991
    Established Xanavi Informatics Corporation an on-board information system manufacturer, in a joint venture with Nissan.
  • 1993
    Acquired "ISO9001" certification of quality assurance stipulated by the International Standardization Organization.
  • 1994
    Established Siam Hitachi Automotive Products Ltd., an automotive products manufacturing company, in a joint venture with Siam Auto Parts in Thailand. (It relocated to Bang Pakong from Samut Prakan in 1997.)
    Established Hitachi Car Engineering Co., Ltd.
  • 1996
    VICS™ service commenced. Delivered on-road equipments and vehicle-mounted units for this service.
  • 1997
    Gasoline Direct-injection systems were mounted on Nissan Leopard passenger cars.
    Acquired QS9000 certification for all the products.
  • 1999
    Automotive Products Division was renamed Automotive Products.
    Launched the delivery of hybrid car systems.
  • 2000
    Launched the production of world's first direct injectors for battery drive type.
  • 2002
    Commercialized maps and route distribution service systems for in-vehicle information terminals using mobile phones - the world's first service system of this kind.
    Launched the mass-production of the world's first electric-powered 4WD systems.
  • 2003
    Automotive succeeded in the development of a grip-type finger vein authentication technology that enables personal identification just by holding a door knob.
    Products was renamed 'Automotive Systems'.
  • 2007
    Achieved one hundred million units in cumulative production of airflow sensors.
    Commenced the mass-production of Variable Valve Event and Lift Control System (VEL).
    Developed wheel-integrated finger vein authentication technology which enables personal identification by holding a steering wheel of an automobile.
    Released a commercial vehicle navigation system "Solid Navi" with high durability and business communication functionality – the first product developed through collaboration of Hitachi and Clarion.

    Released an electronic map conversion/distribution service system that uses the technology of map data difference updating to enable prompt updating of the latest map information.
  • 2009
    HHSmall compressor business transferred to Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Co., Ltd.
    Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. was established by the split of 'Automotive Systems' from Hitachi, Ltd.
  • 2010
    The partnership of Hitachi Automotive Systems and Airbiquity provided global telematic services for electric vehicles.
    Delivered electrically-driven brake systems for the new Nissan FUGA hybrid vehicles.
  • 2011
    Hitachi Automotive Systems and Airbiquity implemented first commercial production of globally connected vehicle solutions for Nissan LEAF.
    Started dynamic Monitoring Services in cloud for commercial vehicles available with smart devices.
    Released Navigation Application Software "NS-100A" for smart devices easily customized to suit the needs of the business.
    Started and delivered motors and inverters for General Motors electric drive vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt
  • 2013
    Automotive Systems transferred the CIS Division to the Information & Telecommunication Systems Company of Hitachi, to drive expansion and growth of the Hitachi's CIS business.

Toward the Realization of Autonomous Driving

Autonomous driving is anticipated to benefit us as an effective technology for achieving fewer traffic accidents, less congestion and less load on the environment. It will also provide mobility assistance for the elderly and others.

We will continue our research and development into automated driving assistance systems to create new value for vehicles, people, and society, and the realization of a safer, more affluent world.
